Jeb and Jon have released this week's snapshot, 12w08a. This week's changes are as follows:

Added a defense mob to villages
Added up-side-down stairs
Many changes to the world and lighting system

Need help using a snapshot? Badprenup has you covered!

1. Download the new snapshot minecraft.jar
2. Navigate to your .minecraft folder (On windows, you can find it by searching for %appdata%)
3. Put the new jar file in the bin folder (OPTIONAL: Back up your old jar file).
4. Open Minecraft via the launcher, how you normally would.

No videos due to finding the article as soon as it got on! What luck! I Bet it is some sort of stone golem thing, and old, considering the
plant growth.

EDIT: apparently they are called Iron Golems. I think ul be able to craft them, since they dont have a spawn egg, and the utility Snow Golem also does not have a spawn egg. Not to mention it ISNT an actual living thing. Its a robot. Thus the name Iron Golem.

They attack zombies for the villagers. They attack by flipping enemies up in the air with their long arms. It takes 2 flips to kill a zombie, and 2 flips to kill a player, from experience. Apparently they also take 20 hits from a diamond sword to kill. Frankly, you do NOT want to mess with these guys from up close. They seem slow, and are huge. Easy targets.they ll take a ton of hits though. They drop about 5 iron ingots when killed. I bet they have a diamond heart. They gotta be hard to make.

So it wasnt a golem. Just a villager on steroids and hasnt had any showers since EVER.

Ok.
Have you attacked him? just wondering.

Fixed Cave Generation

Added Camera Controls (probably Temporary)

F6 causes player to get "Stuck" to the camera untill it is pressed again. Allows the player to look like he is phasing through blocks.

F9 causes camera to freeze into position, allowing to see the player model rotating in third person view.

Scrolling the Mouse rotates the forward, left, right, and back directions.

Pressing Y,H,U,O,I,K,J,L,N, and M changes the camera view in a variety of ways. Press two of these at the same time to reset to the ususal view

Birches and Pines spawn only very rarely (a rare example can be found in seed "12w08a" at x and z coordinates 300).

Spawning Zombies that are spawned on half-Steps will not burn in daylight until they step on a block

Camera Controls aren't bindable and trigger when you have one of your keybinds set on theirs.

Blacksmiths in villages are much more rare

Also, The Golems can pick up roses.. and give them to the little vilagers. aaaaaaawwwwww.

1.2 Preview

Stuff Included:

  • Added a new type of Stone Brick, called Circle Stone Brick, which is only accessible in Creative Mode.[3]
  • Pressing F3 now displays what biome you are currently in. Also, raw, sky & block brightness values called rl, sl & bl respectively.
  • Slabs can now be placed upside-down.
  • Added mechanical sounds for Iron Golems
  • When crafting Slabs, you now get 6 instead of 3
  • When crafting Ladders, you now get 3 instead of 2
  • Removed camera controls accidentally added in 12w08a
  • Two new blocks have been added to the terrain.png file. They look similar to Sandstone but instead they contain hieroglyphics. These blocks have not been added to game yet. ( , )
  • Bug fixes:
  • Nerfed Iron Golem spawn rate
  • Fixed bug with updating Powered rail when placing redstone
  • Fixed Stairs being placed upside down when placed on snow
  • Fixed not being able to put torches on upside-down Stairs, probably normal Stairs too
  • Fixed Jukeboxes not playing above level 128
  • Fixed not being able to grow Giant Mushrooms above level 128
  • Fixed bug with growing trees above level 128 with Bone Meal

That might not be a bug...

But circles in Minecraft? That is unheard of! Glad for the halfslab change in the crafting table . I always wondered what happened to the other half. And the helioglyphs? Remember the desert fountains? Yeah. I bet they are involved. I predict the update to be very soon.

Guess what. Checked the mojang site. It's coming. TOMMOROW. On March 1st. It's going to be a lot less busy in the server for a while, but probably not as long as usual. After all, bukkits working with mojang now..

Things I'm excited for:
-Added shift clicking support in furnaces
-Removed all ghost entities under the command of Lord Herobrine
And something I will not get used to:
-Made punching a TNT block with flint and steel in hand destroy and drop a TNT block (right-clicking will activate the TNT)
 
They did. This is an early snapshot, to let modmakers get a head start. the official release will be the exact same thing as the
snapshot. so we shouldnt have to wait as long.
 
New snapshot is out (12w15a), the changelog has been kept secret but the video below explains most of the changes, once again not a whole bunch of groundbreaking stuff but the small tweaks seem quite nice:

 
Considering the new dispenser behavior for boats and minecarts, i dont expect this to be backward compatible.
 
This week's snapshot is ready for testing, and while the feature list is short, we think it's a very exciting one:

-Added editable books
-Wooden half slabs in four colors (and they act as wood instead of stone)
-Bug fixing and tweaks, notably about entity collisions, “picking blocks” (creative mode), and chat
-Some other, censored stuff
