So last night I was watching the opening ceremony for the London 2012 Olympics and I started wondering what the general international consensus was of it so this morning I hopped on a few US news outlet websites that allowed user comments and the vast majority were along the lines of "BOOOOORING!" or "stupid show UK should be ashamed".

So yeah just wondered what sorta opinion you guys had on it if you happened to watch it last night?

Americans watching the NBC version apparently got nothing short of being bombarded with commercials from what I can tell and people saying they watched the BBC version online seemed to have enjoyed it a lot more. NBC even went as far as to cut the torch entering the stadium and cutting out the London terror memorial, I didn't watch the NBC version so I can't confirm any of this but it's what I've been hearing. AND OBVI VANCOUVER 2010 BEST CEREMONY EVER!!@!@#E@! VANCOUVER > ANYONE ELSE

The opening ceremony was very British. They extended it as long as they could and threw in a ton of commercials which ruined the feel.

It was alright, but it seemed like they were just trying to 1 up Beijing. And WAY too many commercials for it to be enjoyable (at least on the channel I was watching it on). I wound up not even watching the whole thing on TV and just watched the highlights online.

In my opinion, they did wonderfully well. Beijing was on a completely different level because of their manpower and culture that they could present, England however is a very different story. They've hosted the games before and there is only so many cultural changes that have occurred. There was a lot of imagery and symbolism with the torch bearers and I loved the queen from the sky part.

At first I was like "this is neat, it showing UK history" Then I was like "wtf is with all the children" Then I saw mr bean and I was like "This is awesome".

I liked it. I only saw like one commercial saying McDonalds was the official restaurant, so I dunno what you guys were watching it on. Anyway, I thought it was cool that Muse played live, no matter what anybody says otherwise. That would have been sweet to see in person.
