Regarding Outlands going into 1.8 or 1.9

So I was wondering if there are any plans to create additional regions as 1.8 and eventually 1.9 are implemented. Yeah, that is a silly idea as there is lots of regional space available for claims at present.

So, I am now wondering if it's possible to regenerate(re-seed?) the outlands as 1.8 or 1.9 is implemented to a) give us something new to explore b) refresh all resources and c) allow for seamless chunks to get rid of those nasty squared off cliffs you see every now and then.

It's outlands, so there shouldn't be anything overly important out there worth preserving... is there?

This would require the precise removal of chunks in the current map. I don't think there is a tool available to do this right now. We would run the risk of "accidentaly" deleting a chunk with someones build on it.

We do have upcoming plans that will address this in some way so please stay tuned.
 
Outlands will stay as a resource gathering area and pvp for now. We have future plans for outlands. Don't you worry too much. As for the new land generation we have an idea as to what an if we can do such a thing. If not sorry. But we will be doing certain things to help along the 1.8 process. Once we have updates to the latest version changes may or may not happen. Its really all down to plugins.

I think a "colony" region would be cool... It'd have a road connecting it to one of the main regions, but apart from that, it'd be in the outlands. It'd have some protective regions, and the road'd be protected. If it was built, I think it should be an organised building project.

MCEdit lets you either delete selected chunks or delete all but the selected chunks.

However, the new seeding generation might cause really strange transitions... which is unavoidable, but it would be less weird if it wasn't right on the wall
 
Slight issue you have forgotten, the size of our map. I think MCEdit would choke trying to delete chunks of that size...
 
And its always on its way, in just a few days/weeks/months...


At least we know that something is in the works, not like other communities I've been where users don't know what higher-ups are up to.
